I read some of this story it like Romeo and Juliet **sMiLe**. I guess you don’t want to not disobey the kings order or your whole family will be executed. Crazy but true.

Tum Teav was a fictional story made popular during the anti-monarchy regime of Lon Nol. Though fictional, Tum Teav contains some historical truths: it shows us the lives of the palace and how it operates; the lives of ordinary citizens during time of the story (I am not sure what year it is based on, but my guess is probably around late 19th century).

How I can say no to your reasoning???

The beauty of arts depends on the eyes or the interpretation of the audience. Classics such as Tum Teav opens doors to interpretations. You are right in your assessment. The Lon Nol regime used this story to portay or illustrate the corruption and absolutism of monarchism. I see this story as a story of people who ae led astray by lust and power and Tum is one of the chararcters who allows his lust to take over his better judgement.

Talk about mother, it is hard to say. Do any mothers want their children to be bad, no future? The only Teav's mother had done, was that she did not understand her own dauther and she did not understand what the love mean.( love is crazy like that). The only ways that she could do, is to understand herself.
At the end, for children or young people who did not listen to mother, old people or teacher, they would get a bad result.( including religious belive)

There are always pro and con between Tum Teav's story because it is show that there is true love between both them and no matter where they at they always meet and talk to each other by poem that Tum sing at King palace. The King granted then to get maried as wife and husband but when Teav's mother make a plot to take Tum back to marry with Mearn Ngoun Teav gave Tum wine to drink and make beautiful day turn to night. It is also help us to learn that when the mother is too tide up with daughter and did not give the daughter freedom to choose what she want in life, that is the result that mother will get as a result. I love Tum Teav story and Pka Sror-poun, and Sophat-Manyan.......Those are good story to learn and there are always pro and con in each one of them.............I.............Love....................it!..........................

On the Tum Teav Translation of George Chigas, I saw he wrote the wrong thing about Tum Teav, from page 8. Tum Teav is the story of Tum and Teav, so how come in his translation he said Teav love Moern Ek, and then at the end of story Moern Ek had been killed. That is completly wrong, actually, Teav love Tum, and the one who had been killed under the tree was Tum.

First, I think you translate by yourself. Anyway, which part of the story that you like the most? And how do you think and feel of this story? Any related to your real life?
