They claim my own modem belong to Comcast
I bought a modem for internet for over 7 years. I have been signed up with Comcast for service and save 3 dollars per month with my own modem, because not renting a modem. Last several years I moved to the new place and signed up with Comcast again. Maybe they think my modem belong to Comcast at the old place, but when I signed the paperwork I didn't see they list a modem on it. Couple years later I cancel service with Comcast. They told me to return a modem if not, they need to see a receipt that I bought it. I told them I will find a receipt, but I couldn't. Several months later I signed up service with Comcast again, but on my bill statement I didn't see they charge for renting a modem. Now when I cancel a service they need me to return a modem for sure if not, they will charge me a original price. I told them it's my own modem that I bought for a long time ago, but they're pushing me to show a proof with a receipt. What should I do?. Should I give them my own modem or I need to see a proof of their paperwork? They should had a proof if they gave me a modem. They must document everything when they gave the equipments to the customer. Please help....

"on my bill statement they didn't charge for rent a modem" That's because the modem don't belong to them. Do you still have your receipt for the modem? If not, you can try to contact the manufacturer of your modem with the model/serial number, and ask for confirmation that it was sold as retail. That way, if Comcast can't or won't resolve the mistake and your case gets forwarded to the cable compliance commission, you'll at least have something to support you. Showing that the modem doesn't belong to Comcast. Or... talk to someone else.
